When Oyub Titiev was arrested, he was 60. A former P.E. teacher, human rights activist and head of the Chechen branch of “Memorial,” he was accused of drug possession. This play documents the absurd absurd case of Oyub (the transliterated Russian spelling of the Islamic prophet Ayyub, who in the Judeo-Christian tradition is known as Job). It's a parable about the sea, salty snacks and Shariah law. It was first brought to the stage when Oyub was still waitng for his trail in prison and finished after he was sentenced to four years and got out on parole several months later.

Anthology.doc is a collection of documentary plays of Theater.doc published by Common Place and Bookmate Originals.
