Legend has it, the fiberboard that served as the first stage of Theater.doc was found in a dumpster. This happened in 2002, and since then, the theater is documenting life in Russia, living by the rule formulated by R. W. Fassbinder: "If you can't change reality, you can witness it."
This anthology is comprised of exactly this kind of witnessing, the documentary plays from 2002 to 2020, and stories about their creation. Punk-theater, "emergency drama," "literature of tragedy." Together, they form the contemporary history of Russia: migrants and journalists, terror and television, doctors and inmates, political strategy and incest, and 150 reasons not to defend the Motherland.
