Eugène Sue

Romans, Nouvelles et Histoires Maritimes

The novels by Eugene Sue were strongly influenced by his political, religious, and philosophical views, as well as his lifestyle and biography. Being the god-son of Empress Josephine, Sue spent his childhood in the center of political turbulence, and his naval career gave materials for his famous maritime stories. His novels also had anti-Catholic views, as he strongly supported the socialist movement. He is also known as the author of famous proverbs. For example, the saying “Vengence is a dish served cold” first appeared in one of his novels. The presented here collections contains the novels “Un Corsaire,” “Le Parisien en mer,” “Voyages et Aventures sur Mer de Narcisse Gelin,” and “Atar-Gull.”
