You picked up this book at the least convenient hour, after a $400 copay cleared and the school called about another meeting. You love your child fiercely and you are trying to answer a question no standard finance book asks, how do you build security for a child who may need support at 25, 45, and 65 while keeping your household intact today. Maybe you just received a diagnosis and need the cheapest path to a strong report, or your teenager is 16 and aging out of the only system that ever helped. Whatever season you are in, you share a fear this book treats as rational, that you might run out of resources before you run out of need.
This book is not a coupon book and not a legal textbook that replaces your attorney. What you actually need is a structure built for 4 real buckets, clinical, educational, everyday, and future, and a way to hold money without breaking benefit rules. The pages that follow run in the order the struggle unfolds, from diagnosis to lifelong support.
Inside, you will discover:
• The true cost structure and a 60 day cost map that shows where money actually goes
• How to get evaluations funded and when a $4,000 private report is worth it
• A therapy portfolio that buys independence at the lowest lifetime cost
• Insurance mandates, prior authorization, and a 90 minute appeal workflow
• The IEP economy that turns school services worth $20,000 to $50,000 per year into kept revenue
• A 4 container operating budget, sinking funds, and a 30 minute monthly money date
• An emergency fund sized for 6 to 12 months for gaps and sudden needs
• ABLE accounts, special needs trusts, SSI, Medicaid waivers, and the legal toolkit at age 18
This book will not tell you to try harder, and it will give you vocabulary, tools, and judgment for the money you actually have. If you want fear converted into a funded plan that holds for decades, start with the cost map. The horizon is long, and the structure is what lets love do its work over that horizon.
