Lockwood then completed a Master of Arts in News Journalism at Cardiff University in 2018. The course was accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists and provided practical newsroom experience. Lockwood’s dissertation, The Price We Pay for Convivence, explored smart technologies in the home through interviews with technologists and users.
After completing her studies, Lockwood began working in regional journalism at The Northern Echo in Darlington in 2020. The reporter covered breaking news, digital features, and community stories while developing skills in fast-paced editorial production. Reflecting on this stage, Lockwood later said that regional reporting “teaches you to find stories in ordinary places and to listen closely.”
In December 2021, Lockwood joined Business Insider as a Junior Tech Reporter. Over the next two years, she progressed to Senior Tech Reporter, focusing on startups, venture capital, and environmental journalism. Her investigation into GoStudent, co-written with Riddhi Kanetkar, received a “Highly Commended” recognition at the 2024 Headlinemoney Awards. During her tenure, Lockwood contributed to Business Insider’s success in winning Press Gazette’s Future of Media Award for Best B2B/Specialist Website in 2023.
Between March 2024 and September 2025, Lockwood worked as a freelance journalist and author. Freelance work appeared in publications including Fortune, WIRED, Refinery29, and The Cooler. During this period, she wrote Clean Up on Aisle Earth (2025), which was published by the Scottish independent press 404 Ink.
Clean Up on Aisle Earth investigates how technology can both damage and restore the planet. The book presents interviews with researchers, engineers, and entrepreneurs exploring ideas from biochar and enhanced rock weathering to artificial intelligence for energy efficiency. Lockwood wrote that technology “helped create the problem, but it can also help us fix it.”
Through a mixture of reportage and analysis, the book outlines what an equitable and sustainable future might look like. It has been described by its publisher as an “optimistic blueprint” for the planet’s future if society commits to meaningful change.
In 2025, Lockwood joined CNBC in London as a reporter covering European companies and markets. Her reporting has included global technology trends, stock movements, and the critical minerals industry. The writer has appeared on radio, podcasts, and at conferences as a moderator.
