Debra Farrington

Born in Schenectady, New York, Debra Farrington received her B.A. from Scripps College and her M.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. After managing multi-million-dollar bookstores for years, she took over a quiet little seminary bookstore in Berkeley, hoping to get off the fast-track. After a few years there, her writing career began, and she was soon well known in religious publishing.

Ms. Farrington's first step in her writing career was book reviews for Publishers Weekly, and from that she went on to become a contributing editor for Publishers Weekly Religion Bookline. She continues to write for magazines such as The Lutheran, Spiritualitiy and Health, and contributes to Beliefnet.com. Debra was awarded the Catholic Press Association's 2000 Book Award, with first place in the Family Life category for her book, One Like Jesus: Conversations on the Single Life. Her other books include Living Faith Day by Day and Romancing the Holy.

In 1997 Ms. Farrington became the editorial director at Morehouse Publishing, and recently has been named publisher of the company. She also leads retreats and teaches classes in spiritual development on topics such as singles issues, rule of life, and prayer and meditation.

In her spare time, she enjoys quilting, reading religious murder mysteries, watching ice-skating with the same commitment football fans have about their sport, playing with her cats, bird-watching, and being quiet every opportunity she gets.
