Robert Silverberg

Robert Silverberg is an American author of science fiction. He is the author of contemporary classics such as Dying Inside (1972), Downward to the Earth (1970), and Lord Valentine’s Castle (1980). Silverberg has also written historical fiction and non-fiction books. Since 1955 Robert Silverberg published over 500 works, including novels, short stories, and collections.

Robert Silverberg is multiple winner of the Hugo and Nebula awards. He was named to the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 1999 and in 2004, was designated as a Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America. His books have been translated into forty languages.

Robert Silverberg attended Columbia University in New York City, where he studied English literature. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1956.

During his time at Columbia, Silverberg became involved in science fiction fandom, attending meetings of the Futurians, a fan club that included many future sci-fi writers and editors. He also began to write science fiction and sold the first story, Gorgon Planet, in 1954.

Robert Silverberg is known for his contributions to the science fiction and fantasy genres. Some of his most famous novels, Dying Inside, explores the life of a telepath who begins to lose his abilities.

Lord Valentine's Castle is a novel set on a distant planet where a man must unravel the mysteries of his own identity. He has also written many short stories, including Nightwings, which won the Hugo Award for Best Novella in 1969.

He is a past president of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America and the winner of five Nebula Awards and five Hugo Awards. In 2004 the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America presented him with the Grand Master Award. Silverberg is one of twenty-nine writers to have received that distinction.
