I didn’t worry like this in school because in a way I knew it didn’t mean anything. I wasn’t going to fail out, and as long as I made decent grades I was going to walk away with a diploma just like everyone else. The end point was the same. Now what I do makes a difference for my boss and everyone else here. That’s what I lose sleep over. Every day I feel like I’m going to be fired. Or I’m going to disappoint someone. They are going to figure out they don’t need me. That I don’t belong here. Like I’ve lied on my résumé or something and I’m just pretending to be a grown-up. Then I’ll be waiting tables somewhere.”
