The magic is in the details, my mom always used to say. And these details are perfect.

And isn’t it silly, to love the way someone’s things look like next to yours? Little bits and pieces of a life lived in parallel.

He knows me well enough to understand that there’s something I’m not telling him, but he also knows me well enough not to press.

I mirror his position and kick back in my chair, grasping for something that will ground me. Something that will make me feel like I’m not stepping into a giant mistake.
Except nothing comes to mind.

We’ve always been affectionate with one another. This physical intimacy between us is nothing new. The result, I think, of two people who rely heavily on touch as a method of comfort and communication.

He says not to keep score, but I can’t help it. I’ve always had trouble accepting help and that seems like all I’ve been asking for lately. I don’t know how I’ll ever repay him for all of this.

Having him here, it’s a shot of comfort and confidence.
