Andrea Lundgren

Andrea Lundgren is a Swedish novelist and critic. She writes literary fiction. She is best known for Nordisk Fauna (2018), which won Tidningen Vi’s Literature Prize.

Andrea Lundgren was born in 1986 in Boden, Sweden's far north. She grew up in that region, marked by long winters and sparse landscapes. These settings later shaped her writing.

She moved south as a young adult and became active in Stockholm. Alongside fiction, she worked as a literary critic and translator. Her early career combined writing, reading, and critical work.

Her debut novel, I tunga vintrars mage, was published in 2010. The book introduced themes of isolation, bodily fear, and inner pressure. In 2012, she took part in Scritture Giovani, an Italian project that promoted young European writers.

In 2014, Lundgren published her second novel, Glupahungern. The book expanded her style and subject range. In 2015, another story, Bedragaren, led to a nomination for Swedish Radio’s Novel Prize.

Her first short story collection, Nordisk Fauna, appeared in 2018. The book focuses on forests, animals, and the strange sides of human life. It won Tidningen Vi’s Literature Prize the same year. It was also nominated for Svenska Dagbladet’s Literature Award in 2018 and the Norrland Literature Prize in 2019. She also received De Nio’s Winter Prize for this work.

In 2022, she published her latest novel, The Underground Sun. The book continued her interest in myth, nature, and human unease. Across her writing, Lundgren often explores what feels alien in daily life. Her work links northern settings with inner tension.

Andrea Lundgren continues to live and work in Stockholm.
