Phyllis Shand Allfrey

Phyllis Shand Allfrey was born on the Caribbean island of Dominica in 1908 where she died in 1986. A white West Indian from a once wealthy planter family, she wrote one novel, The Orchid House, and dedicated much of her life to politics becoming a minister in the short-lived Federation of the West Indies.
