The Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria Couple

Attachment-Safe Repair for Relationships Living with RSD

When Rejection Sensitivity Invades Your Relationship, Love Alone Is Not Enough

Your partner sighs and your nervous system goes to war. A text goes unanswered for twenty minutes and your brain writes a breakup narrative. A piece of constructive feedback lands like a personal attack, and by the time the emotional flood recedes, you have said things you cannot take back and your partner is exhausted from another spiral they did not see coming.

Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD) is a neurological pattern linked to ADHD that turns ordinary relationship moments into emotional emergencies. It is not a character flaw. It is not manipulation. And it is not something you can simply decide to stop feeling. But it can be managed, and it can be managed together.

The First Couples-Focused RSD Repair Guide

Most books about rejection sensitivity are written for individuals. This one is written for the couple. It introduces the REPAIR protocol, a six-step attachment-safe process designed specifically for partners who are managing the fallout of RSD spirals: Regulate, Express, Perspective-take, Acknowledge, Identify, and Reconnect. Every chapter includes real-world case studies, practical scripts both partners can use, and exercises that build genuine security over time.

What Makes This Book Different

Inside these pages, you will find the neuroscience of RSD explained in plain language so both partners understand what is happening in the brain during a flood. You will learn how to build a signal system that catches spirals before they escalate, and how to repair the relationship after they do. The book addresses the non-RSD partner's experience directly, including a standalone Partner's Pocket Guide that can be read independently.

Beyond the romantic relationship, dedicated chapters cover RSD in parenting, friendships, in-law dynamics, and the workplace, showing how professional rejection follows you home and compounds relational triggers. Medication and therapy options are reviewed with evidence summaries and provider advocacy scripts. Appendices include quick-reference repair cards, a trigger inventory across five life domains, and a medication guide formatted for clinical appointments.

Built on Research, Grounded in Real Life

Drawing from attachment theory, the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and current ADHD research, this book bridges clinical science with the messy reality of daily life. It is neurodiversity-affirming, evidence-based, and written with the understanding that both partners carry the weight of RSD, not just the one whose brain creates the storm.

If your relationship has been hijacked by rejection sensitivity, emotional flooding, and the exhausting cycle of trigger, spiral, and silent recovery, this book gives both of you a way forward.
