Abbey Hicks began her career in paranormal romance under the name Abbey MacMunn. Her debut novel in that genre was shortlisted for the Joan Hessayon Award, which recognises new writers in romantic fiction. Over the following years, she published twelve books with Tirgearr Publishing. Her work during that period included the Love Bites series, which features steamy paranormal romantic comedies.
She later moved into self-publishing. She has said that this allows her greater creative freedom and closer contact with readers. She has also written under her own name, focusing on sweet romance with contemporary and paranormal settings. She has described her approach as offering dashing heroes, quirky heroines and happy endings.
Her most recent work is Bubble Trouble (2025). It is a romantic comedy set in a fictional village with supernatural elements. The story follows Jasmine Graham, an aromatherapist who arrives in the Cotswolds after personal setbacks. She encounters Spellwood, a town with concealed magic. Noah Young, a witch responsible for keeping that magic hidden, becomes involved when Jasmine’s first attempt at soap-making creates enchanted bubbles that move through the town.
The bubbles dye hair, reveal secrets and affect local events. The narrative includes a forbidden romance and the concealment of magical identity.
