Doreen Virtue

Doreen Virtue is an American author and former New Age teacher who has transitioned into a Christian writer and speaker. She is best known for her earlier titles, such as Healing With the Angels (1999) and for her later work, Assertiveness for Earth Angels (2013). For many years, she was the best-selling author at a leading new age publishing house, with her books and card decks selling worldwide.

Virtue was regularly featured on Oprah, CNN, Good Morning America, and wrote a weekly column in Woman’s World magazine called My Guardian Angel.

Doreen Virtue was born into a family with a connection to metaphysical traditions. She described herself as a fourth-generation metaphysician and had worked as a clairvoyant counsellor for decades. She earned a B.A. and M.A. in Counselling Psychology from Chapman University, and later a doctorate in psychology.

Her background included childhood involvement in Christian Science, which she later described as a heretical religion. She went on to spend fifty-eight years in the new age movement. During this period, she became one of the best-known authors in that field. Despite public success, she later said she was still searching for the truth.

In 2017, Virtue reported a significant change in her life. She explained that while reading Deuteronomy 18, she realised she was a sinner in need of a saviour. Doreen said, “I surrendered my life to Jesus as my Lord and Saviour, and left the new age.” From that point, she rejected her earlier teachings, stopped producing card decks and related products, and began encouraging others to read the Bible.

Virtue returned to formal study and graduated from Western Seminary with a Master’s degree in Biblical and Theological Studies, completing her course with highest honours. She has since written and spoken about her conversion, denouncing her previous work and addressing copyright issues connected with old material still sold without her approval.

American Gospel TV, Daily Wire, Moody Radio, Christianity Today, Cultish, and other outlets have interviewed her. In these, she urged readers and listeners to find peace in the gospel of Jesus Christ. She said, “The Bible contains the answers I was seeking, and I finally found the peace I was looking for.”
