I felt so small. Knowing she couldn’t have missed me the way I missed her.

You said I don’t understand love

Gated by worlds I cannot reach

Inexperienced and incredulous

Love is something you cannot teach

I tried, though, in many ways

To untangle and construct

Build it from a simple base

Plant a seed that buds

But seasons have come and gone

And I am left untouched

My soil spoiled from recklessness

My roots shattered to dust

You said I don’t understand love

And even though you’re right

In the dark, barren undergrowth

There’s a small sliver of light.

But you’re not here anymore and suddenly I feel dirty and imprisoned. I want to leave, I want to go home, but I can’t. I don’t belong to myself anymore
