Paul Swendson

I have been a teacher for more than 20 years, working for the past fourteen years as a community college history instructor. I began writing online essays on a variety of topics in January of 2010, most of which can be found here:http://freewayflyer.hubpages.com/In 2012, I compiled the American history essays that I had written into a book titled, "Accessible American History: Connecting the Past to the Present." My primary motivation was to create a book that would help me to teach my American history courses more effectively. After receiving a great deal of positive feedback from my students - and continuing to write online for two years - I decided to put together a new, improved, expanded edition of the book. And this time, I am investing more effort into reaching a wider audience. My goals in writing these books correspond with what I do in the classroom. Many of my students, like the general public, have always found history to be confusing, boring, and irrelevant. So instead of simply reciting the events of the past, I look to break history down to the essentials, bring the past to life, and connect past events to life today. In short, as my book cover for "Accessible American History" says, I strive to make American history more meaningful and relevant for everyday people. Here is the book's official Facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/accessibleam...Here is a brief article that I wrote which includes links to where the book can be purchased as either a paperback or ebook:http://freewayflyer.hubpages.com/hub/... I am married to a beautiful woman from India. I have two daughters, a dog, and live in Southern California. In addition to my hobbies of reading and writing, I love racquetball, collecting music, and playing strategy games.
