Catherine Czerkawska

I’m an award winning novelist, short story writer and experienced professional playwright. I write warm, intelligent, sexy and very grown-up love stories - some historical, some contemporary and some a mixture of both. I have more than 100 hours of BBC radio drama to my name as well as many theatre productions. Now, years after I was first traditionally published, I’m embracing the digital revolution. I try to write the kind of books I love to read. The Curiosity Cabinet, one of three finalists for the Dundee Book Prize, was first published by Polygon and is now available on Kindle along with a trio of short stories called A Quiet Afternoon in the Museum of Torture and a love story with a very dark back story called Bird of Passage. I published The Amber Heart a sweeping tale of love and loss, loosely based on my Polish family history, to Kindle early in 2012. My new novel, Ice Dancing is set in a small Scottish village. It has been compared to The Bridges of Madison County but it's really a novel about love at first sight, adultery - and the possibility of change. I’ve never slotted comfortably into any one genre although I’d call myself a natural mid-list writer.I’ve held many Creative Writing fellowships and residencies and spent four years as Royal Literary Fund Writing Fellow at the University of the West of Scotland. I enjoy giving readings and talks about all aspects of my work and love chatting to my readers so please don't be shy about contacting me. I collect antique textiles in my spare time - quite often they find their way into my fiction.
