Luke Alfred

Luke Alfred is a veteran journalist and well-known author. He currently works as a freelance journalist in Johannesburg for a variety of local and international publications and websites. He worked at the Sunday Times for 10 years (just under four as sports editor) and the Sunday Independent for nearly seven. In a freelance capacity, he currently works regularly for the Financial Mail, Cricinfo and the Mail & Guardian. This is his fifth book of non-fiction – and his first of travel writing, autobiography and history. His previous four books were all on a sporting theme, the most recent of which was the story of the 1974 British Lions rugby tour of South Africa, When the Lions Came to Town. He is happily married to Lisa and they have three sons, two Labradors, two cats and a large vegetable garden. They have also recently been visited by a Spotted Eagle Owl. They are hoping she will nest in their garden.
