Malcolm Cowper

Malcolm Cowper was born in Bridgwater, Somerset in 1946, and the following year moved with his family to South Wales. Malcolm grew up in Southerndown, Bridgend and Porthcawl. He later travelled north to Sheffield to train as a teacher with the intention of returning to Wales afterwards, but job opportunities, marriage and two sons kept him up there for the next forty-five years! He taught English in Rotherham, Barnsley and Chesterfield before finally retiring as a Deputy Head in 1997. Always keenly interested in the Second World War, and conscious that the people who lived through those years were fast fading away, he published a collection of local people's wartime memories titled Derbyshire's Unsung Heroes in 2013. When he moved back to South Wales the following year he decided to repeat the exercise, and wrote Glamorgan's Greatest Generation. Malcolm now lives in Porthcawl with his dog, Brock. He enjoys walking, writing, singing in a choir and trying to learn Welsh. He has had a lifelong love affair with old aeroplanes, and regularly attends air shows to see them flying. He is surrounded by a large extended family, whom he describes as 'the best people in the world'.
