At just seventeen, Sandy Creek has already learned how cruel the world can be. Orphaned young and raised in a home where kindness was scarce and cruelty came daily, Sandy dreams of escape—of a place where she might matter, where she might be safe.

Desperate to flee a life of hardship and loneliness, Sandy answers a newspaper advertisement from Abner Tuttle, an aging hog farmer in Texas seeking a wife. She lies about her age, claiming to be twenty-one, and prays her words are enough to earn her passage west.

When she arrives, Abner is stunned by the girl's youth—but something in her eyes keeps him from turning her away. Weathered by years of solitude and loss, Abner never expected a second chance at companionship, let alone one that stirs such a fierce desire to protect.

As Sandy adjusts to life on a rough farm with mud, pigs, and a man twice her age, she finds strength she didn't know she had. And as Abner slowly lets her into his guarded heart, a fragile bond forms—one born not of convenience, but of genuine care.

But when the truth of her age comes to light—and when townsfolk begin to whisper—both Sandy and Abner must decide: is love built on necessity enough to survive? Or can something deeper grow from two lives scarred by sorrow and stitched together by hope?
