It is the middle of the nineteenth century, and the Emperor of Japan has called an end to the Samurai. Mori and Aoi, two of the disbanded warriors, must learn to reforge their paths through a society which has become alien to them. As they struggle to come to terms with their past and to seize a novel and threatened future, they must rely on all their cleverness and wile, their strength and courage, their skill with the blade and their fidelity to one another.
