The life of a man is the time interval between his first and last breath. Guillaume Néry’s dives are between a last and a first breath. Every immersion of this constant weight freediving world champion is a spiritual journey, an inner journey towards a better knowledge of oneself, a renaissance to sensations that have disappeared since the foundation of the world. In this book, Guillaume Néry immerses us in the heart of his training, his routine, his performances, the technical difficulties he has to overcome. More than just a sport, diving is for him a philosophy of life, a way to reconnect with himself and explore this sixth continent still unknown that is the ocean. To confront the danger, especially the letting go, the acceptance of the physiological and climatic constraints to adapt to this universe which is the bottom of the seas. An extraordinary journey that leads us to the frontiers of human boundaries.

Guillaume Néry is a French freediving champion and depth specialist. He dives on a single breath at -126m beneath the surface. Multiple world record holder, double world champion, he recently distinguished himself by accidentally making the deepest dive in history with a depth of -139m. Guillaume’s journey goes well beyond the definition of a sport as such. Combining aesthetics and performance, films and exploration, Guillaume practices his discipline as an art, a lifestyle.

Luc Le-Vaillant is a former sailing champion. Journalist distinguished by the Albert-Londres prize, he is editor-in-chief of the portraits pages of Libération. He is the co-writter of Depths
