John Hudson's light and sound installation, “13 Souls in Search of a Light switch” presents both historic and fanciful characters searching for light in their lives. Here are ghosts trapped in a remote chapel, at times comical, at others horrific, sometimes explosive, sometimes resigned but all with one aim… to find a light switch in order to illuminate their situation. We meet physicist James Dalton, The Venerable Bede's sparrow, cosmologist Carl Sagan, artist Paul Gauguin, Alice in Wonderland, thirteen characters real or imagined.
The poems are interlaced with subtly changing refrains and the collection concludes with a transcription of an interview with John Hudson that took place during the Saint-Clementin festival in 2012.
