Set during the San Francisco riots of the 1870s, The Apple of Discord gives us a peek into the three-day riot. The protest was against Chinese immigrants by the city's white population. Through this absorbing fiction, one can get a good idea of people's struggles during this ethnic violence that caused four deaths and the massive destruction of property belonging to the city's Chinese immigrants.
