The Nazi threat disturbs a Jewish family in North East France. Their talented daughter, Ruth, leaves for Krakow to teach music. She is French, fascinating and foreign. Is she Jewish or Christian? A passionate relationship must end, and her lover, now a fighter pilot, flies in defence of Poland. Ruth is trapped in Krakow and survives while she can in the subjugated city.
