Buddha and Buddhism
Gautama Buddha, also known as Siddhārtha Gautama, or simply the Buddha, was a sage on whose teachings Buddhism was founded. He lived and taught mostly in north eastern India sometime between the sixth and fourth centuries BCE.
Buddha means “the enlightened one” or “awkened one”.
Buddhism is a path of practice and spiritual development leading to insight into the true nature of reality. Practices in Buddhism are means of changing oneself in order to develop the qualities of wisdom, awareness and kindness.
