In the Jenith Empire, Citadel is home to the Security Service. Beneath it is the Homeland of the Kqeg, despised psychics who serve in the Military Order of Joakqim. Jaik heads the Jenith Security Service and his daughter Alisha is a student with a hidden interest in the Kqeg. Zakq and Ikqe serve in the Military Order.
A Kqeg prophecy promises freedom from captivity, but the clues are not yet in place and belief has waned. Zakq is an unbeliever while Ikqe’s faith sets in motion the events that will shape the future by unleashing new power games. Meanwhile Jaik has no reason to suspect that a mundane legal case will give Citadel’s governor an excuse to persecute the Kqeg. Entangled by his own judgment, he sets about bringing the freshly created criminal to justice. At the same time his daughter starts making secret visits to the Homeland. Blinded by her fascination she ignores the danger of consorting with psychics, particularly clever psychics with anger in their hearts and vengeance on their minds.
