Loes Heijmans-Beek (born 1983) received a life-changing diagnosis at the age of 20: type 1 diabetes. Her carefree student life changed overnight to a regime of finger-pricks, injections, set mealtimes and carbohydrate counting.

On the day of her diagnosis, Loes' mother gave her a diary, meant to write off her worries. When Loes started sharing these stories, a new world opened up for her. Her own ways of coping with diabetes and its challenges struck a chord in others living with this condition. By sharing her story, Loes helped other people, something she had never expected to happen.

Loes is now a highly sought-after speaker at symposia and conferences, has published several books and e-books, and hosts the Dutch Diabetes Podcast.

In her latest book, Loes takes you through her diabetes journey from diagnosis until now. She shares her experiences of moving from finger-pricks to glucose sensors, from pens to insulin pumps and DIY loop technology; from her first job to her first pregnancy and much more. An honest story of a life full of challenges, dreams, fears, frustration and true love. A story about living with type 1 diabetes.
