Lhamo Dondrub, Dalai Lama, was born on 6th of July 1935 in a small village of Takster, in former Tibet. His family was involved in farming and horse trading business.

Now his birthplace and the rest of Tibet are in the Chinese province of Qinghai. Dalai Lama was one among seven surviving children.

He was declared to be the new incarnation and when he was going to be two years old he would become the 14th Dalai Lama.

Owing to persecution by the Chinese regime, Dalai Lama and his followers were forced to leave Tibet. They have been living in India for more than six decades now.

When he was two years old, he was given various relics, including toys some of which belonged to the 13th Dalai Lama. The boy correctly identified all the items which were owned by the 13th Dalai Lama. The boy began to shout that the toys and other things were his.

The doctrine is compassion. Love for others and respect for their rights and dignity, no matter who or what they are: ultimately these are all we need. So long as we practice these in our daily lives, then no matter if we are learned or unlearned, whether we believe in Buddha or God, or follow some other religion or none at all, as long as we have compassion for others and conduct ourselves with restraint out of a sense of responsibility, there is no doubt we will be happy.

If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun.

Inner peace is the key: if you have inner peace, the external problems do not affect your deep sense of peace and tranquility...without this inner peace, no matter how comfortable your life is materially, you may still be worried, disturbed, or unhappy because of circumstances.
