Date with a Surgeon Prince

Ghazi hoped he sounded more in control than he felt. His mind had been in chaos since Marni’s disappearance, and now this! His chest was tight with worry, his gut knotted, and his neck ached with tension.

‘There’s a couch, for emergency overnight stays,’ Ghazi said, half leading her, half carrying her towards an open door at the side of the office.

This man was the ruler of his nation, battling to come to terms with his ‘job’ and to meet the demands made of him, yet he had time to worry over one small boy, or made time to worry about him.

‘But you’ve no time for this,’ she protested. ‘You said yourself you’ve got a schedule from hell and I’ve already taken up too much of your time. I’ll just sit here for a while then go on back to Tasnim’s—even phone her to send a driver if that will make you happy.’

‘Of course,’ Tasnim told her, giving her another awkward hug. ‘Not only will I have the fun of getting clothes for you—and spending lots and lots of Ghazi’s money—but every one of my sisters will be green with jealousy that you’re here and not with them.’

He’d pulled his mask down so it hung loosely below his chin, and the fine line of beard was a little ragged.

He simply had no time! No time for them to get to know each other properly.

He groaned inwardly at the mess of clichés and mixed metaphors, but that’s how his life seemed right now. He’d stolen tonight from the schedule from hell, and by the time he had his new life sorted, this woman would be gone.

Impossible, of course! He had so much on his plate at the moment he sometimes doubted he’d ever get his head above water.

‘That was very kind of you,’ she said, ‘but have you done it every night? Surely that would be too much if you’re operating every day?’
