Dr. David G. Mutchler earned a bachelor’s degree in education, master’s degrees in philosophy and social work, and a doctorate in psychology, followed by advanced studies in religion. He has taught at the secondary, university, and business executive levels, with Honors in each. In addition, he spent several years working in the field of mental health.

David’s starting premise in the entirety of his work is that we are all One—different but not separate. As the world moves more and more in the direction of separation, divisiveness, and polarization, we lose touch with our essential oneness with all things. The result is ever-increasing tension and conflict, ranging from emotional anxiety and suffering at the personal level to global stressors that keep us on the delicate edge of nuclear annihilation.

One of the many issues that divide us is the theism/atheism schism. Whereas the differences between the two groups amounted to relatively minor intellectual bantering in the past, today the battle is fast heating up, given the fact that theism—particularly Christianity—is in a state of steady decline while atheism is rapidly on the rise. The price we pay, of course, is further separation, division, and pain.

Theism vs. Atheism: Where the Twain Shall Meet is a candid and unbiased discussion of both sides of the argument to help each group better understand the other, given that their lack of mutual understanding is the principal reason for the discord between them. David makes a compelling case that—given the proper level of awareness on the part of both factions, there is, indeed, a place where theism and atheism can meet, where the lines of division are healed, and where harmony and mutual cooperation prevail.
