“Lolita” by Vladimir Nabokov was first published in Paris in the year 1955. It is said to be one of the most significant works of the author. The book was later published in New York in the year 1958.

Vladimir Nabokov translated the novel from Russian to English by himself. Since the book has a very controversial subject, it remained in discussion among literary circles for many decades all over the world.

The story is told by Humbert, the protagonist and narrator of the novel. It is the story of seduction, sex, incest, and child abuse, but it is also said to be one of the finest piece of literature.

Lolita is the pet name given to a twelve years old girl Dolores Haze by her stepfather Humbert, who in the due course rapes her and continues to have sex with her for two years. It is a tragicomedy with detailed descriptions of events and setting.
