Major Richard McDonald was seconded from the New Zealand Army to be the Chief Military Spokesman for the United Nations Mission in Somalia in 1994. During his nearly six month deployment to Somalia Richard McDonald was responsible for providing a daily media briefing. He also wrote a poem each day and he combines these into a unique insight into life in the Somalia Peacekeeping Mission.
