Coast Road: Selected Poems is the definitive Robert Gray collection.

Robert Gray is a poet renowned for his originality and mastery. With influences and themes ranging from Buddhism and haiku to Modernism and the Romantics, Gray inhabits a landscape at once spare and elaborate, ritualistic and impulsive.

‘Individual, surprising, evocative … at once cool and rapturous’ —Lisa Gorton

‘An imagist without a rival in the English-speaking world’ —Kevin Hart

‘Take a scenic (and soulful) coastal drive.’ —Herald Sun

‘Gray’s poems are fine lenses for viewing the ordinary world we so often overlook. Often when we read him we are struck by the magic of his eye… Not to read him is to be in danger of not living as fully as one might.’ —Weekend Australian

Born in 1945, Robert Gray grew up on the north coast of New South Wales and left school early to work on a local newspaper. Since the age of 18 he has lived in Sydney, where he has worked as an advertising copywriter, mail sorter and mainly as a buyer for a bookshop. He has coached students in Shakespeare and in his own work. He has a devoted interest in painting.
