Earth's Magnetic Field Secrets

We know of only two ways to produce a magnetic field: with a bar magnet and with the movement of electric current. Current flowing through a loop of wire can produce a magnetic field similar to Earth’s field.

When a compass needle is placed within the magnetic field, the needle will always line up perpendicular to the direction of the current flow and parallel with the magnetic axis.
