In the early 21st century, Boston eventually became an international, intellectual, and technological centre. The city also played a national role in the political science field. However, there was also a loss of importance of regional institutions in the financial sector and within the journalistic sector. Thus, the newspaper The Boston Globe was taken over by the New York Times and Boston-based insurance company FleetBoston Financial by Bank of America. However, the already increasing traffic since the 1920s, however, also led to new problems. These were not easy to solve in Boston, as the city centre was one of the oldest and densest in the United States. Exactly this circumstance saw the responsible local politicians in the late 1940s, however, as part of the problem. Thus, in the following years, a four-kilometre-long, six-lane city highway was laid as a raised elevated road across the heart of the city. However, this solved the traffic problems only for a short time and had also caused a fragmentation of the city centre. In order to mitigate the urban consequences of the road break and at the same
