A true account of a young family's emigration to Australia in 1963 courtesy of the £10.00 assisted passage scheme, and the devastating effect it had once reality replaced the fantasies otherwise presented by Australia House. Unable to finance an immediate return due to the two years domicile penalty clause, the alternative would result in a most traumatic journey of four years; a disastrous encounter with the Nullabor Plain, a separation whilst I struggled for eight months and three days to secure five return tickets, amongst the wilderness of the North West Cape, where earnings were completely “tax free”.
