Atmosphere

She wants to get home and smell the dirt and oil of Earth. She wants to find her mother. She wants to see Joan’s face again.

“I would give you anything,” Vanessa said, “if it wasn’t going to cost us everything.”

It was a look she’d never seen in Barb before, but it was easy enough to recognize: she loved him. Daniel smiled as he put his cheek to hers, and Joan could see that he loved her, too.
