Pete leaves Boston for a new beginning following the death of his mother. His journey to Marigua, an island few hours away from Boston, leads him to Julia, who has recently separated from a high-status American businessman. The events that then transpire on Marigua leave Pete suffering from years of guilt and anxiety, long after the island has been submerged in the Atlantic.
