    On the first and somewhat more obvious level, they allow you to dissect and examine what you are doing with your life. They subconsciously make you ask questions like:

    What do I really want to do?
    What actually matters?
    Why am I doing something?
    What can I avoid?
    Who is going to be happy from this—is it me?
    Is this a real priority?
    What’s my real motivation or this?

    Planning around the expected expenditure and not your time availability is going to help you budget your energy better so you don’t get overwhelmed, because you manage yourself better and don’t place yourself in situations to get overwhelmed. Understand your own boundaries and, like the previous point, gain a conscious understanding of what you have been doing to yourself.

    Don’t feel guilty about taking a break or not being productive for a change. It’s recovery, which is something professional athletes do between training and competition. It’s something you are entitled to, shouldn’t feel ashamed about, and ultimately need.
