Spotify is a Swedish based service that streams music, podcasts and video content to its subscribers. The content it distributes are protected content that are directly obtained from the record labels of media companies that own them. Currently the service is available in Western Europe, The Americas and Oceania. The music available on the service can be filtered by Artist, Album, Genre, Playlist or Record Label.
It was launched in September 2008 by a Swedish start-up company and as at June 2016, the company has more than 75 million active users. This is a new way to distribute and listen to music, this book will seek to look at the various features of the platform.
