Dan Moren

Dan Moren is an American writer of science fiction and supernatural fiction. He is best known for the Galactic Cold War series and his novel All Souls Lost. His debut novel, The Caledonian Gambit (2017), won Debut Author Challenge — Cover of the Year and was a Goodreads Choice nominee.

Dan Moren was born and later settled in Massachusetts, though details of his early education are not publicly documented. He worked as a senior editor at Macworld, which led to further writing for the Boston Globe, Fast Company, Popular Science, Yahoo Tech, Tom’s Guide, Six Colors, The Magazine and TidBITS.

His first novel, The Caledonian Gambit (2017), was published by Talos Press. It became an Editor’s Pick for Best Science Fiction and Fantasy on Amazon. The book was later translated into Czech.

In an interview, he explained that the Galactic Cold War universe had been in his mind since his twenties and said, “I’ve had the entire idea for The Galactic Cold War series in my head for a number of years.”

He went on to write The Bayern Agenda (2019), which reached number seven on the Apple Books SF/F bestseller list. The Aleph Extraction (2020) received a starred review from Publishers Weekly. The Nova Incident (2022) also received a starred review from Publishers Weekly and was selected by Fantasy Faction as one of the Top 50 SFF Books of that year. It was also chosen as a book of the year by A Writer’s Life.

The Armageddon Protocol followed these books and continued the story of Simon Kovalic and his team of operatives. It took place after the events of The Nova Incident and built on a long-planned arc. He described it as a classic espionage story “in space” with characters forced to act without their usual resources.

In 2023, he published All Souls Lost, a supernatural detective story about Mike Lucifer. The Verge included it among its favourite books of that year.

Dan's also a big-time podcaster. He's the co-host of tech shows Clockwise and The Rebound, writes and hosts the nerd-quiz show Inconceivable!, and is a regular panellist on the Parsec Award-winning podcast The Incomparable.

Dan Moren is living with his family in Somerville, Massachusetts.
