Before becoming a full-time writer, Lucy taught English for 15 years and studied acting. Now it helps her narrate her audiobooks. It was also the Waterstones Book of the Month and won the 2019 Audie Award for Lucy's narration.

Lucy followed up with Our Castle by the Sea in 2019. The book was shortlisted for the Waterstones Book Prize and nominated for the Carnegie Medal. Her next novel, The Ghost of Gosswater, published in 2020, continued to showcase her storytelling prowess, earning acclaim from The Times.

Sisters of the Lost Marsh, released in 2021, is a gothic tale described by author Hilary McKay as her "book of the year." The novel, set in a marshland inspired by the Romney Marsh in Kent, delves into the lives of six motherless sisters living under the oppressive rule of their father and the curse that haunts their family.

When one sister vanishes, Willa, the protagonist, braves the treacherous marsh to find her, uncovering hidden family secrets. The novel is lauded for its vivid settings, complex sibling dynamics, and exploration of destiny.
In 2022, Lucy published The Mermaid in the Millpond, a short, dyslexia-friendly novel set during the Industrial Revolution.

Lucy Strange lives in the Kent countryside with her partner and their son.
