Joe Paone is an American author of historical fiction and a healthcare editor based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has a background in journalism, marketing and communications, and works as Senior Editor at Outpatient Surgery Magazine for AORN. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from La Salle University.
His debut novel, The Baron’s Daughter (2025), is set in southern Italy in 1915. It follows Angelina Ruffolo, the daughter of a baron who is expected to marry the ambitious son of the local mayor. She instead falls in love with Paolo, a gardener drawn into a political plot against Italy’s entry into the First World War.
Framed for murder and imprisoned, Paolo becomes the catalyst for Angelina’s decision to fight for the truth at significant personal risk. The story moves from Calabria to the battlefields of the Great War and deals with loyalty, love and the cost of defiance.
