gourmand

This is the French for greedy and the last syllable is pronounced mon – the d is sounded only in the feminine form, gourmande. It is not a flattering word and should be clearly distinguished from gourmet (second syllable pronounced may), which means someone who is well-informed and discerning about food and wine. It is possible to be a gourmet without being a gourmand and vice versa, but all too easy to be both.
