Kawashima Masayuki is trying to come to terms with his overwhelming desire to stab his infant child with an ice pick. This is not an easy read, because Murakami (the other one) touches on dark themes like child abuse and graphic depictions of violence. However, its rewarding as you get to delve into the mind and the desires of some very complicated characters, with minds so twisted and disturbed.
