When Sally Henderson married her husband, Barry, some two years earlier, she was convinced that her future happiness was insured.
She had every reason to believe that things were going to go well. For one thing, Barry, at the age of thirty-five, had pushed himself into the ranks of a senior partner of a top law firm in downtown Los Angeles. They moved into a beautiful suburban household on top of a hill overlooking the San Fernando Valley. Her financial worries were at an end. The time that she met him, she had been working as a cocktail waitress, constantly worrying about how good tips would be on a particular evening, fretting about the long hours. All that had changed after she met Barry, but now it appeared that the honeymoon was at an end.
