We all have bad days, and we recover from them. But for many of us, disaster strikes and changes our lives forever. It may be a natural catastrophe like a hurricane that robs us of loved ones and destroys everything we’ve worked for; or a man-made one, like a vicious crime, or something as ordinary as a business decision that proves to be career-ending. The circumstances may seem entirely hit or miss—a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Someone may do something that causes us irreparable harm, whether the intention was malicious or not. Or we may become our own worst enemy by making a terrible decision that we initially thought was a good idea.
