The path that leads into the library is a challenge for the mother in this story; however, the love for her children is what opens the doors. Through courage and sheer determination, everything she learns along her journey helps her to discover her own personal power and fosters a lifelong love of learning within her. There is no bigger strength than facing your fears…and there’s no place like the library! It can lead you to endless possibilities and adventures.

This inspirational story is based on the author’s real-life struggles. Even though she was terrified of the library because of her low literacy level, Carey knew the importance of not allowing her fears to grow within her own children. Facing a fear is never easy but Carey wanted her children to embrace books rather than hold the same fear she held towards them. Although her main purpose was to conquer her fear and create family memories, the library experience blossomed into so much more. Her local library gave her all the tools she needed to become an award-winning self-published author and illustrator of books such as: Ten Little Ladybugs in my Jar, My Dad Couldn’t Read and her bestselling book My Mummy Couldn’t Read. Through sharing her personal struggles with learning to read, Carey continues to bring encouragement to others struggling with literacy.
