Tove Jansson's ?rst book for adults was a memoir, capturing afresh the enchantments and fears of her Helsinki childhood. Presented with images from her family archive, Sculptor's Daughter gives us a glimpse of the mysteries of winter ice, the bonhomie of balalaika parties, and the vastness of Christmas viewed from beneath the tree. Tove Jansson (1914–2001) is best known as the creator of the much loved Moomin stories for children. However, in her ?fties she turned her attention to writing for adults, producing a dozen novels and story collections. Sculptor's Daughter (translated by Kingsley Hart) was the ?rst, published in 1968.
